Something I learned from my mom is that a good card is a gift in itself. To this day, she takes such pleasure in finding just the perfect card for the occasion. But what if you can’t find the perfect card that says exactly what you want to say? That’s OK because you make one! This Valentine’s Day, I plan on handing out a few handmade cards and I want to encourage you to do the same.
More from MamásLatinas: 15 cheap & romantic date ideas for Valentine’s Day
I’m not a particularly crafty person, but that’s never stopped me from following a good tutorial. I’ve gathered some of the most lovable DIY Valentine’s Day card idea tutorials to share with you for inspiration. Also, I want to remind you that Valentine’s Day isn’t just for lovers. As far as I’m concerned it’s about celebrating love in general, so make some cards for all the loves in your life, not just your romantic love.
Make a cute pop-up card.
This little pop-up card is so easy to make. You’ll need scissors, paper, glue, and someone you love to give it to. Remember you can always change the text suggestion to personalize it or write it in Spanish.
Let them unbottle your affection.
Normally, I would tell you not to keep your emotions bottled up because it’s not good for you. But in this case, I think it’s a great way to let a loved one know just how much you love them. This clever DIY card features a string of hearts that gets pulled out of a heart-shaped bottle.
Show them what’s inside your heart.
You know what’s in your heart, but how are others supposed to know unless you tell them or show them? This adorable card starts off as a heart and opens up to reveal the message inside your heart.
No need to slide into their DMs.
Why slide into someone’s DMs when you can slide into their heart in a much more personal and in-person kind of way. Write a sweet secret message that only gets revealed when it’s in the hands of your love.
You love them how much?
I made my own version of this card, so I can attest to how easy it is to put together. I made it for my daughter and she absolutely loved it. Not as much as I love her, but still.
It’s the perfect time to step up.
Step up and create a pop-up card that features three stair-like tiers that you can write “Happy Valentine’s Day” on. You’ll need scissors, paper, and glue to make this darling token of your love.
Write them a book of love.
It’s like a card and book fell in love and had a baby. Use multiple shades of red and pink to create a layered card that your recipient can flip through to read whatever loving message you write inside each layer.
Give them a card that blooms before their eyes.
These flowers don’t cost an arm and a leg, don’t need water, and won’t wilt. Plus, you get to enjoy the look of surprise on your love’s face when they open the card and see a whole bouquet bloom before their very eyes.
Make a card with a hidden picture of the two of you.
I love this idea because we so rarely print pictures nowadays and a printed picture just hits differently than one on your phone. Also, this project only takes 10 minutes to make as long as you already have a picture printed.
Give them a waterfall they can hold.
This waterfall card made of hearts is a great way to wow your love. You can change the color scheme, of course. I would use different hues of pink to create a fun and festive monochromatic look.
Send them faux snail mail.
If you actually mail this card, then it would be so be so meta because you would be sending faux snail mail via actual snail mail. Regardless of how it gets delivered, this card is charming.
Make a beautiful rose heart.
This is one of my favorite DIY Valentine’s Day cards. It takes a bit more effort than some of the rest, but it’s so worth it. The rolled-up papers really end up looking like little actual miniature roses. You could even spray them with some rose scented perfume for a sensory experience.
Let them rip into it.
Interactive cards are an actual experience. This one gives the receiver the joy of ripping paper apart to reveal a hidden love not. If you make it for your kids, you could hide some money in there or a candy.
Go retro!
Mix tapes used to be the perfect way to express your feelings with a curated playlist. Nowadays, you can make playlists online, but it’s different because it doesn’t take as long of a time to create them. I love the idea of creating mixtape/playlist card with an actual cassette. Bonus points if you actually record songs onto the tape and provide a tape player to play it on.
Picture this!
You give this card to the person of your affection and they are so wowed by it that they save it forever and ever because oh, my gatos it’s the coolest thing EVER! So worth the effort. Someone please make me one.
