Now that Selena Gomez is engaged to Benny Blanco, fans are curious to learn more about their relationship timeline. The music producer/songwriter popped the question to the singer/actress in December 2024 after more than a year of dating. But interestingly, they knew each other long before things ever turned romantic.

Long before they were a couple, Benny collaborated with Selena for her album Revival. They worked together for her singles “Kill Em with Kindness” and “Same Old Love.” And that wasn’t the last time they interacted professionally.
2019: They work together again for his song 'I Can't Get Enough.'
In 2019, Selena joined Benny for another music project. She featured in his song “I Can’t Get Enough” and the accompanying music video. (J Balvin and Tainy joined them.) In it, Benny memorably danced and interacted with a singing Selena while dressed as a giant teddy bear.
2023: Benny and Selena collaborate on her song 'Single Soon.'
In 2023, Selena released her song “Single Soon.” which Benny coproduced with Cashmere Cat.
Funnily enough, she insisted during an interview with Hits 1 that she was happy alone.
“I think everybody goes through the phase of, ‘Oh, it’d be nice to, like, have someone,’ and I get that,” she said. “But you know, I’m just enjoying where I’m at, and I just want to be happy with who I am, so that whenever that person comes into my life, I can just have them add on to me instead of being this insecure person that I normally used to be.”

During a May 2024 interview on The Howard Stern Show, host Howard Stern asked what Benny had planned for his and Selena’s one-year anniversary. That’s when the music producer offered insight into when they became an item. “It was right around her birthday,” he said. (Selena was born on July 22.)
December 7, 2023: Selena confirms her relationship with Benny.
In the comments of a since-deleted Instagram post on December 7, 2023, Selena confirmed that she and Benny were dating. She also defended their romance to critics.
“He is my absolute everything in my heart,” she wrote in the comments of a fan account, per Billboard. “I don’t understand. If you actually care about me. This is my happiest. If you don’t, feel free to say whatever you want. But I will never allow your words to guide my life. Ever. I’m done. If you can’t accept me at my happiest then don’t be in [my] life at all.”
December 15, 2023: They go Instagram official with their relationship.
On December 15, 2023, Selena made her and Benny’s relationship Instagram official with a photo hidden in a carousel. “New York, my favorite moments w you this week 🤍,” she captioned the update. Eagle-eyed fans quickly noticed Benny hugging Selena in the second picture and then kissing her in the last snap.
January 3, 2024: Selena and Benny go on their first public outing as a couple.
On January 3, 2024, Selena and Benny stepped out for their first public appearance as a couple. They attended a Los Angeles Lakers game for their big debut. In photos from the matchup, the lovebirds were spotted showing plenty of affection.
January 15, 2024: They attend the Emmy Awards together.
Although they didn’t walk the red carpet together Selena brought Benny to the 2024 Emmy Awards on January 15, 2024. She and her Only Murders in the Building costars, Martin Short and Steve Martin, posed for photos ahead of the awards show. The series was nominated for best comedy series but lost to The Bear.
May 14, 2024: Benny declares his 'next goal' is to have babies with Selena.
During his May 2024 sit-down with Howard, Benny also opened up about his future plans—including having children.
“You have no room for kids in your life, right?” the host asked.
“That’s my next goal, to check the box,” Benny replied. “I have a ton of godkids; I’ve got a ton of nephews. I love being around kids.”
“When are you going to propose to your very famous girlfriend?” Howard then asked.
To that, Blanco laughed and said, “When I look at her, I don’t know a world where it could be better than this.”
July 22, 2024: Selena says Benny is the 'love of her life' on her birthday.
On July 22—Selena’s 32nd birthday—she took to her Instagram Story with a declaration about her boyfriend.
“Love of my life,” she wrote on a photo of Benny kissing her on the forehead as she wrapped her arms around him in a hug.
Meanwhile, Benny posted a birthday shoutout via his Instagram grid, writing, “i used to play a teddy bear in ur music video and now i get to b urs in real life… happy bday bb ! i love u !”
December 11, 2024: They announce their engagement.
On December 11, Selena took to Instagram with an engagement announcement. “forever begins now..,” she captioned the update, which featured a photo of her hand with the engagement ring on it. Other pictures showed a picnic, Selena smiling while showing off the ring again, and Selena and Benny hugging while sitting on the floor.
