Conjoined twins miraculously survive first surgery to separate them

A set of three-week-old conjoined twins from Florida, are on their way to finally being separated. Conner and Carter Mirabel were born joined at the belly and facing each other. They shared a small intestine which they had separated at Wolfson Children's Hospital in Jacksonville this past Friday. But will they be able to pull through for another surgery?

Conner and Carter's parents Bryan Mirabal and Michelle Brantley conceived the twins just six months after their now 13-month-old son, Garge, was born. How crazy is that? They were shocked especially after discovering the boys were connected at the stomach. They have separate hearts and bladders and share a small intestine and liver. Surgery was performed to split their intestines and soon they'll be undergoing another operation.

"The boys are doing fine now. Trooping it out like the little troopers that they are!" the twins' family wrote on the Prayers for Carter & Conner GoFundMe page. "We don't have much of a update as of right now but Monday when we talk with the surgeon we will be sure to update everyone." The second surgery will entail separating the two distinct livers the twins share. Soon they'll be able to get off their IVs and be able to drink breast or formula milk. The final procedure has been scheduled for six months from now. Meanwhile, the twins seem to be doing holding up pretty well.

"They're our miracle babies," aunt Jasmine Mirabal told the station. "They really are. We weren't promised their lives. God gave them to us. As crazy as this has all been, it's not a burden to us, it's a blessing."

I'm so happy for Carter and Conner. It's a miracle they were able to make it through that first surgery. A lot of conjoined twins don't survive. I can' t even imagine how relieved their family must feel. Wishing them best of luck on this next surgery and hoping everything continues to go well for these two cuties!
