Most moms will find that having a child turns them into the family photographer and that's a good thing because professional photographers can be quite pricey, no? New parents schedule shoots with photographers even before their baby is born and that's cool and all, but what if you want to take pictures of your newborn yourself? You totally can! And they will be beautiful and no you don't have to know tons about photography or have expensive equipment to do it.

Here are nine simple tips for photographing your newborn:
1. Have a space heater. Your baby needs to be super comfy, especially if you are taking photos of your little with no clothes on. So crank up the heat!
2. Get a waterproof pad. If you are taking pictures of your baby sans diaper, you better believe chances are that cutie is going to go number one or number two at some point. If you have a waterproof pad set up underneath the area you are laying your baby on, then clean up will be minimal.
3. Look for inspiration. Go online and do a search for newborn baby photos or go on Pinterest and do the same. Check out photos of newborns that you love and get ideas for poses and set ups from them before your shoot.
4. Feed your baby. A full newborn is a happy newborn is a newborn that will probably fall asleep and that's the perfect time to snap some pictures.
5. Have white noise. White noise playing from your phone or from a white noise machine will help your baby stay asleep longer.
6. Check your lighting. Natural lighting looks the best in photos. So if your home has a great source of natural light in the form of a huge window, then set up near that window so that you can take pictures without a flash. Avoid using a flash in general when taking your newborn's photo.
7. Have a helper. You can't be everywhere at once. Have someone that can spot the baby and make sure the baby is safe and comfy while you are taking the photos.
8. Move. Instead of moving your baby over and over into different positions, try moving around the baby and taking photos from different angles.
9. If your baby gets fussy, stop. The great thing about taking your own newborn's baby photos is that you have unlimited access to your child. If your baby can't handle any more picture taking then try again the next day.
