Never doubt that heroes come in all ages. Two kids, 13-year-old Kylah Woody and her 11-year-old brother Michael Woody__, saved themselves and their fatherwhen their father passed out at the wheel__.
The siblings were riding with their dad on April 7 along a Phoenix-area freeway. The father started going in and out of consciousness due to low blood sugar. The father's foot was stuck on the gas and the car was dangerously swerving at about 90 miles an hour. These children sprang into action and acted as a team with resourcefulness that would seem beyond their years.

Michael grabbed the wheel while Kylah called 911. Amanda Shearer, the 911 operator who answered the call, also rose to the level of hero. She helped talk the siblings through the situation while figuring out exactly where they were and guided them to safety.
The terrifying ride lasted for about 10 miles. Shearer helped direct the children to an exit where they could safely stop and in the happiest of all happy endings everyone came out of the situation safely. An officer met up with the children and it was determined that the father was indeed suffering from a low blood-sugar attack.
The Peoria Police Department honored both the children and Shearer at an awards ceremony on Monday. I am so impressed by the resourcefulness and quick thinking of all three of these individuals. They did so well under pressure in such a dangerous situation. They should be very proud and so should we.
