Michelle Droddy knew there was something up when her 9-year-old son came home from school extremely upset one day earlier in September. But it would take a whole week for her to finally get to the bottom of it all. It turns out that a substitute teacher had used duct tape to silence Droddy's son because he was too chatty in class. Droddy only found out about this incident after school administrators interviewed close to 100 students and discovered what the substitute teacher had done.
Droddy is now looking to bring charges against the school district and the substitute teacher who, in my opinion, has no place being an educator and should be punished for his behavior.
Meanwhile, the school has said the substitute teacher "didn't use very good judgement" and thus has been disciplined. A police report has also been filed.
Although Droddy's son was not the one who revealed what had happened to him, he did tell his mom he didn't want to go back to school anymore. Can you image the shame and humiliation he must have felt? Especially in front of all his classmates and at the hands of the person who's supposed to be in charge of them. Like Droddy said to KATC TV in Louisiana:
He has to face these same kids for the rest of the year that were sitting there laughing at him. The embarrassment and the shame that goes along with having someone you're supposed to respect that comes and duct tapes your mouth shut in front of everybody.
What I want to know is why is this person even a teacher? Sometimes I hear about stories like this one and I can't help but get really scared about the possibility of my children facing something similar in their own school and how I would react in the face of something like this.
