I spend way too much money on organic foods to be letting them spoil in my fridge. Just the other day I had to throw out a pack of collard greens along with a bunch of broccoli that quickly went bad and girl let me tell you–it hurt! But that won't be happening anymore because now I'm freezing my food!

I tend to like buying certain foods in bulk. Like collard greens (which I never find near my apartment) and herbs I need on a daily basis. Only problem is, a lot of these foods go bad quicker than you can blink your eyes. So why not freeze them? Freezing your foods keeps them fresh for much longer and helps eliminate waste. Don't know what to freeze? Here are seven foods you never thought you could freeze!
1. Avocado: I can't tell you how many times I've had to throw out avocados that had gone bad–especially during the summertime. But did you know you could just freeze them? That's right, I have friends who make tons of guacamole and then put it away in the freezer. You can also just halve them before peeling, throw them in re-sealable bags and freeze them like that.
2. Herbs: I tried freezing cilantro and basil once but it didn't turn out to be such a good idea. The herbs were super limpy and tasted pretty off too. But apparently if you freeze herbs in plastic or glass container covered in olive oil they'll last you longer. How genius is that?
3. Empanadas: My abuelita likes to start making empanadas for Noche Buena in Novemeber. She makes them in huge bulks and stores them in the freezer. All she has to do is fry or throw them in the oven the day of!
4. Tortillas: You can also freeze tortillas or homemade empanda dough as well. When you're ready to eat, just throw them in the microwave on a plate covered with a damp paper towel.
5. Sofrito: The same way Italians freeze their sauce, Latinos should freeze their sofrito. It's the only way you can get it to last you longer than a month.
6. Sancocho: Soups and sancochos don't tend to last very long in the fridge. Have a ton leftover? Pour it into a big, air-tight tupperware and let it sit in the freezer. I do this all the time!
7. Cooked pasta: I don't have it in me to throw out a ton of leftover pasta so I freeze it instead. All you have to do is microwave it with a little bit of water when you're ready to eat.
