I bet you I can pretty accurately predict what kids Halloween costumes will be popular this year. Don’t be too impressed by me, though. I’m not some kind of sorcerer. I just happen to be in the know because the Google Trends Team shared what’s trending for Halloween and I know that if a whole lot of people are searching for specific Halloween costume ideas then more likely than not, we’ll be seeing a whole lot of those particular costumes on display during everyone’s favorite fright night.

I love sharing this info because you can then share it with kids in your life who don’t know what they want to dress up as yet. Maybe they will see something on the list that they love. Or maybe they want to stay away from any of the trending costumes for Halloween this year because they want to go for something truly unique. Either way, here’s the list!
15. Inflatable aliens are blowing up this year.
I get it. Inflatable alien costumes are just fun. They are fun to see and fun to wear. I particularly like the ones where it seems that the person wearing the costume is being abducted by an alien. They crack me up every single time.
14. Jack Skellington will be attending the festivities.
The protagonist of the 1993 film The Nightmare Before Christmas has become a Halloween staple. Expect to see the tall, lanky skeleton dressing to impress and looking dapper in a pinstriped suit.
13. Taylor Swifties will be bountiful.
OK, it's kind of crazy that Taylor Swift took number 13 on the kids trending costume list because 13 is sort of Taylor's number. She was born on December 13 and the number has proven to be lucky for her time and time again.
12. M&M's will be trick-or-treating and being given out as treats.
I actually love this costume because it's so easy to DIY. Also, the candy is so highly recognizable that everyone will recognize what the costume is just by seeing an M on a colored background. There is comfort in the familiar.
11. Ghostbusters will be on duty.
The newest movie, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, came out on March 24, 2024. This could be a fun family costume as it never hurts to have more than one Ghostbuster on the job.
10. Godzilla is back.
I find it impressive that Godzilla, who was first introduced to the world in 1954, is still popular, trending even. I’m sure it has something to do with him starring in newer movies like Godzilla x King Kong, which came out March 29, 2024.
9. Minion madness continues.
Despicable Me 4 came out on July 3, 2024 and a lot of kids caught a renewed case of Minion fever. Not that Minion costumes have ever been scarce since the first film came out in 2015.
8. Corpse Bride is kind of a classic costume at this point.
The film Corpse Bride came out in 2005 and ever since then, she has been a Halloween favorite. Makes sense since the character, whose name is Emily, totally fits the aesthetic. Also, what a great way to reuse a wedding dress that was donated to a thrift store. Or you could buy a whole ready-to-wear costume. But I think this particular costume can be an easy DIY.
7. Peely costumes are gonna be bananas this year.
In case you don’t know, Peely is a character from the video game Fortnite. People who aren’t familiar with Fortnite might just think it’s a banana costume, but if you know, you know. Peely isn’t an ordinary banana.
6. Queen of Hearts costumes will be prominent.
I’m assuming that Queen of Hearts costumes for kids are popular at the moment because the film Descendants: The Rise of Red came out on July 12, 2024, because Red’s mom is none other than the Queen of Hearts.
5. Wolverine lives!
Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine character came back from the dead in the Deadpool & Wolverine movie that came out on July 26, 2024. The movie was a box office hit that made quite an impression on many younger viewers, so I’m not at all surprised that it is a trending Halloween costume this year.
4. Gojo will be doing the sorcerer thing.
Not gonna lie, I had to look this one up as I know nothing about manga. My ignorance aside, Satoru Gojo is anything but obscure and has quite the fan base. He is considered the strongest jujutsu sorcerer in the world.
3. Kidpool will be out and about.
The Kidpool character in the Deadpool & Wolverine movie has a potty mouth that you probably won’t want your child to emulate, so you may want to set some ground rules about how in character they are allowed to be while in costume.
2. Doctor Doom is no dummy.
Marvel supervillain Doctor Doom will be roaming the streets this Halloween. What makes him particularly dangerous is his superhuman intelligence. His other powers include summoning demons, teleportation, dimension-hopping, and the ability to control the weather.
1. Red from 'Descendants' takes the top spot this year.
Google Trends reports that "'who is red the daughter of in descendants' is a top searched question for Descendants: The Rise of Red this year." A mother and daughter duo could go as Queen of Hearts and Red.
