Ben, 52, and Jen, 55, first dated and became engaged in 2002, when they were the "it couple" of the era. In early 2004, they called off the relationship — only to reconnect nearly 20 years later, in 2021. Bennifer legally married in July 2022 in Las Vegas before holding a second wedding the following month in Georgia. Now, two years after saying "I do," they are in the middle of a tricky divorce without a prenup.
Things could get 'ugly' amid Jen and Ben's divorce.
On September 3, a source offered insight into Ben and Jen's divorce. The uncoupling reportedly “has the potential to get ugly,” the unnamed insider told People. Additionally, the source confirmed that Bennifer did not sign a prenuptial agreement before their Vegas elopement.
Reportedly, there are 'some sticking points over financials.'
Ben and Jen are reportedly in mediation with divorce attorney Laura Wasser. In the past, Laura has worked with celebrities such as Kevin Costner and Kim Kardashian. There are, however, "some sticking points over financials" between J.Lo and the Good Will Hunting actor.
California law states only income and assets acquired during marriage can be divided.
Jennifer indicated in her divorce filing that her and Ben's assets were "unknown" to her when she submitted the paperwork. Per California state law, only the income or assets acquired while they were married would count as community property. Therefore, they would only need to divide those assets.
In July, Bennifer listed their Beverly Hills mansion.
After they were unable to sell their marital home off-market, Jen and Ben listed their Beverly Hills mansion on July 11. They bought the property in 2023 for $60 million but listed it for $68 million. The 38,000-square-foot home has 12 bedrooms and 24 bathrooms, in addition to a 5,000-square-foot guest penthouse, a caretaker house, and a guardhouse.
Ben bought a bachelor pad in July.
Ben bought a $20.5 million home in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood in Los Angeles, TMZ reported. On the same day, July 24, J.Lo sold her New York City condo, People reported. Interestingly, July 24 was also Jennifer's 55th birthday.
Reportedly, Jen's filing for divorce 'hit her hard.'
An anonymous source recently offered insight into how Jen was coping after filing for divorce. The move has reportedly "really hit her hard," the insider told People in an article published on August 18. "She’s very upset and disappointed with Ben."
