The 95th Academy Awards ceremony was held on March 12 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. This year’s telecast was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, making it the third time the comic has hosted the big event. Even before the official start of the Oscars broadcast, the excitement begins as stars walk the red carpet. Except this year the carpet was not red, it was champagne colored. Honestly, it looked like a boring light beige. Still, the stars walked on the blah carpet dressed in dazzling designer attire.
More from MamásLatinas.com: Salma Hayek's most gorgeous makeup-free selfies
We saw some of our favorite stars like Salma Hayek, Pedro Pascal, and Zoë Saldaña all dressed up for the biggest night in Hollywood. Even though we know the point of the ceremony is to celebrate talent, you know that we aren’t going to miss the chance to share who we think were the best and worst dressed celebs who walked the carpet at the 2023 Oscars. Check out my picks and see if you agree.
Stephanie Hsu looked radiant in hot pink.
The Everything Everywhere All at Once star wore the most exquisite hot pink strapless corseted gown. The bold color works so well with the cut of the dress, and Stephanie looks so glamorous and elegant without being fussy.
Michelle Yeoh wore Dior Haute Couture.
I am a huge Michelle Yeoh fan, but I was not a big fan of what she wore to the SAG Awards this year. But I’m loving what she wore to the Oscars. She looked ethereal walking the champagne carpet. I also love the way she styled her hair and the dangly earrings she wore.
Mindy Kaling wore Vera Wang.
It seems like a lot of stars opted for white gowns this year. Mindy Kaling was one of them, and she looked spectacular in a Vera Wang dress that had clever detached sleeves.
Ariana DeBose wore Atelier Versace.
In 2022, she won an Oscar for best supporting actress. This year, she won again with that dress. She looks incredible in it. It’s elegant and ornate without being gaudy or busy. It fits her perfectly and is so dazzling that she could keep the rest of her look clean and simple.
Lenny Kravitz wore all black.
Lenny Kravitz is undeniably stylish. He always looks effortlessly cool and so comfortable in whatever he's wearing. Love this all black look with a plunging neckline that shows off some skin and his layered chains.
Salma Hayek wore Gucci.
Is her gown red? Is it orange? Is it a little bit of both creating a liquid fire effect? Is it made of glitter or liquid that's been poured all over her? Basically, it is amazing. It's a dress that refuses to be ignored on a woman who is also impossible to ignore.
Rihanna wore Alaïa.
It is so tired for a writer to describe a pregnant woman as “glowing,” so call me tired because I cannot possibly ignore that RiRi is all aglow and looking phenomenal in this black dress with sheer and cutout details. And her hair in that style is such a fun way to top off the whole look.
Pedro Pascal wore Zegna.
Let me be honest: Pedro Pascal could have worn a suit made out of a paper bag and I would have put him on my best dressed list, because it’s Pedro and his appeal transcends clothing. He is a bona fide papi chulo, no matter what he is wearing or not wearing.
Janelle Monáe wore Vera Wang.
The singer has an excellent sense of style and makes taking fashion risks look easy. This color combination could so easily look like it was intended for Halloween, but Janelle looks like a dream in the colors and the fit.
Jonathan Majors wore a great suit.
Jonathan Majors wore a dapper suit with a satiny finish. While he was on the red carpet—technically champagne carpet—being interviewed by Ashley Graham, he mentioned that the suit was inspired by Frederick Douglass.
Halle Berry wore Tamara Ralph.
Many disagree with me on Halle's dress, as she's made more than a few best dressed lists. But for me, this dress is a nope. The best thing about the dress is that Halle is in it. Other than that, it's just not much more than rosettes trying to up the glamour factor on a sexy toga.
Lavern Cox wore Vera Wang.
The green part is a little too toothpaste color. The bodice color is confusing to me. I can't tell if it's supposed to be a kind of nude coloring mesh kind of thing or an actual visible bodice. It ends up looking like exposed shapewear to me.
Jessie Buckley wore Rodarte.
The Women Talking star wore a dress that, although lovely, feels like it was designed for a period piece film or something someone would have worn to a Victorian-era funeral. I like it, but it just looks like it came from a costume shop.
Sandra Oh wore Giambattista Valli Haute Couture.
I want to love the dress that Sandra Oh wore because I do love the color and think the top of the dress totally works. It’s just that the bottom of the dress is so overly draped that it might as well be drapes.
Florence Pugh wore Valentino Haute Couture.
I love that the Don’t Worry Darling star opted for a statement piece, because you should be adventurous with fashion and take risks. However, I do not love this look. It looks a little too much like a big wrinkled sheet worn over shorts for me. Maybe if the color were different, but it’s so beige.
Allison Williams wore Giambattista Valli Haute Couture.
Allison Williams looks beautiful. The colors she is wearing are lovely. The design of her dress and that coat thing is very bleh. It kind of reminds of what Florence Pugh wore in that it's too much fabric and for what?
Elizabeth Banks wore a black and white number.
So there seems to be a trend of sculptural dresses this year, which just do not do anything for me aesthetically. In this case, there's a whole lot of fabric doing I don't know what. And the black and white contrast just ends up looking like two different dresses.
Fan Bingbing wore Tony Ward Couture.
I have a love-hate relationship with the X-Men star's gown. I love the color combination. I love the shimmer of the dress. The hate part of my relationship is that the green part of the gown is giving me Disney villain vibes.
Zoë Saldaña wore Fendi.
Zoë Saldaña wore an understated gown in a light blush color. She doesn’t look bad, and the dress is OK, but it’s just a bit on the underwhelming side for me. It seems like the is better suited for a garden party than the biggest awards ceremony in Hollywood.
Eva Longoria wore Zuhair Murad Couture.
When I first laid eyes on Eva in this dress, I thought I loved it, but on closer inspection, I feel like something is off with the fit. The dress ends up looking a bit heavy and like it could have been tailored to fit her a bit better.
