Carmel, New York high school students Brad Taylor and Dylan Meehandidn't expect to win "Cutest Couple" of their senior high school class, let alone make history. Shortly after their 18-year-old friend, Chelsea posted a photo of the couple from their senior year book to her Tumblr, everyone and their mother started to take notice. So much so, that within 24 hours of being posted, the photo had already reached over 100,000 shares. It's the first time in Carmel High School's history that a gay couple has won or even been nominated for this category and it's truly inspiring!

The image included a caption that read: "Two of my best friends won Cutest Couple of our senior class. First time in my school history a same sex couple has even been able to run for this category, not to mention winning it. So proud of them, and my school," she wrote. But the ones who were truly touched by this were Brad and Dylan themselves who did not anticipate making "Cutest Couple" at all. The two even wrote a letter to the Huffington Post where they shared their reaction to the win and the image that's caused so much response.
This whole thing has been a bit surreal for us because we have been raised to believe that love is love. We never realized that our happiness and openness would inspire so many individuals. The support we have received from our family, friends, and even strangers has led us to believe that our affection for each other is normal … When we started dating a year [ago], the thought of a photo of us traveling throughout the world would be a bit frightening, but now we are proud to be part of the LGBT community.
I can barely put into words how inspired I am by this story. You hear so much about gay kids being bullied in school, that when you finally hear a positive story about a same-sex teen couple being supported you can't help but feel like the world is finally making some progress.
The fact that these boys not only won "Cutest Couple" but have received SO much positive response regarding their relationship is incredibly moving. I'm so happy for them and I hope this will inspire more teens to support and embrace other same-sex couples!
