Amazing high school girls hold ‘no makeup day’ to help promote self-confidence (VIDEO)

With all the crazy plastic surgery stories I've been hearing about lately, I was really relieved and excited to hear about a couple of teenage girls working to help their peers develop self-confidence. The truth is high school can really put a real damper on a teenage girl's self-esteem (we've all been there). But three smart students from New London High School in Wisconsin are doing whatever they can to make it a little easier for their fellow classmates. The three juniors, Caitlin Schmidt, Cambria Fitzgerald and Jenna Mytton started a campaign called the "True Beauty," to help some of the girls in their school embrace their natural beauty.

The inspiring campaign began as an assignment the girls had for their enterprise marketing class. The mission behind the "True Beauty," campaign is to promote self- acceptance and to help encourage young girls to feel comfortable in their own skin, rather than striving and comparing themselves to unrealistic standards of beauty. The girls recently held a function called, No Makeup Day on November 15th, which encouraged New London High school girls to pledge to not wear makeup for an entire day. Over 300 girls participated and around 100 boys pledged to support their classmates efforts.

Female Students wore bracelets, T-shirts and stickers that said "Bare-Faced and Beautiful," while boys sported stickers and merchandise that said, "I Dig Confidence." This is such a great way for teens to prove to themselves that they don't need to feel pressured to look "perfect." Society's impossible standards of beauty can make many women, not just teenagers, feel insecure about themselves. Women feel this constant need to look good all the time. I'll be the first to admit, that I find myself giving in to the pressure many times. But in the end beauty is more than skin deep. This campaign is such a great ways for young girls to start understanding that not only is beauty perceptive, but what's inside is what really counts!
