Women are incredibly strong, and now a pregnant mom woke up from an induced coma to find out some incredible news.
More from MamásLatinas: Woman gives birth while in a coronavirus coma
The mother of three in the UK was given the good news that she was pregnant with twins after waking up from a 10-day coma. Danielle Martin from Belfast knew she was expecting a child but only received the news that she was pregnant with two bundles of joy after she won her battle against the virus. She got double the good news!
The woman fell ill in March.
Danielle said she had a sore throat that eventually got worse, but she had no idea at first that it was the virus she was battling. The pregnant mom felt like she was "suffocating" on March 30. She was rushed to the hospital, and doctors diagnosed her with pneumonia. She was tested for the virus, and the results came back positive.
The mom appeared on 'Good Morning Britain' to tell her story.
The woman and her partner, Brian, said she knew she was just a few weeks pregnant when she got sick with the virus. Her oxygen levels started to drop dangerously, so doctors had to put her in an induced coma. "That's the last thing I remember," the mom said. "I was petrified with me being only a couple of weeks. I thought to myself, 'This baby is not going to survive.'" Danielle woke up 10 days later, and a gynecologist came to visit her at the hospital and said: "Well, when you were in the coma, we did a scan of your belly, and we found another sac."
She received good news amid the storm.
She was in a medically induced coma for 10 days to protect her and her unborn child while the doctors helped her body fight the virus. The woman's challenging days had a silver lining when she was informed by doctors that she is expecting twins.
The woman was totally taken by surprise.
"I was in complete shock," she said, adding that her partner didn't know the good news. "I had no way of contacting him to tell him. He couldn't believe it. He said, 'Danielle, stop messing!'" She was so afraid of losing her life, worrying that her first three boys would have to live without a mom, but she's grateful to the medical staff for keeping her safe. Now the family will be growing by two!
