Super rare identical triplets born in California … AGAIN!

California is at it again. In November of last year a California couple, Hannah and Tom Hepner, was blessed with the birth of naturally conceived identical triplets, Abby, Brin, and Laurel. Identical triplets are ridiculously rare and not something that happens on a regular basis. Well, something is going on in California because another couple has won the identical triplet lottery again. April and Brad Dooley from Long Beach, California welcomed male identical triplets into the world on January 14 and it is a really sweet story.

Identical triplets born in California

April and Brad have a 5-year-old daughter, Kaitlyn; they had been trying to give her a sibling, but had some heartbreak along the way. April told the Orange County Register, "We were trying for one more time. I had had two miscarriages. We were just trying one more time to get pregnant."

Well, they got pregnant and it turned into three. Three beautiful little boys who have been named Patrick, Owen and Liam. They were born in about four minute intervals. Give that mama a round of applause, please. Their combined birth weight was 14 pounds, 9 ounces. All three boys are doing well even though Liam had to have surgery for an intestinal problem.

Nowadays because of fertility treatments it is becoming more commonplace to hear of multiple births, but the chances of having naturally conceived identical triplets is still about one in a million. Identical triplets are the result of one fertilized egg splitting into three pieces.

Congratulations to the Dooley family!
