What? How is it that women who have had babies are claiming to have been virgins when they got pregnant? It makes no sense to me, but out of 7,870 women between the ages of 15 and 28 that were interviewed as part of the long-running National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health about one percent of them said they were virgins when they got pregnant without the help of IVF. What?! Either there are a whole lot of miracles in the form of immaculate conception going on or these women are hecka confused about what it means to be a virgin.

When these "girls" entered the study in the 1994-95 school year they were between the ages of 12 to 18 and they were interviewed about their health and behavior periodically over 14 years. Over those years there were 5,438 pregnancies. Of those pregnancies, 45 of them were reported as having happened without the help of a male. Hmmm.
It is important to note that the 45 women who claimed to have gotten pregnant while being virgins, were more likely than the non-virgins in the study to report that their parents never or rarely talked to then about sex.
Now, not to sound like a callous non-believer, but COME ON! Obviously, these young women describing themselves as virgins, just aren't clear on what it means to lose your virginity. Somehow they had sex with a guy and didn't realize that what they were doing was actually sex. Sheesh! This is why sex education is important. It's all fine and well to tell someone to stay a virgin, but maybe you need to make it clear to them what a virgin actually is. Ignorance is not always bliss, but it can lead to pregnancy.
