Baby Veronica, the little girl in the middle of a bitter custody battle, has finally been handed over to her adoptive parents, Matt and Melanie Capobianco. We've been following this story ever since it came to light and while the saga seems to have finally come to an end, I can't help but be heartbroken for Veronica's biological father, Dustin Brown, and for Veronica herself.

I say this because the little girl just turned 4 years old, so she's my son's age, and I can't even begin to imagine how difficult it must have been for her to separate from the man she's known as "dad" for the last two years of her life. While the Capobiancos raised her for the first two years of her life, I can say beyond the shadow of a doubt that there's very little Veronica remembers from that time.
Instead, I'm sure she has tons of memories of her last two years raised by her biological father and his wife. As hard as I've tried to imagine how one goes about explaining this highly complicated case to a 4-year-old, I've had no luck, and I just feel like crying when I think about their last good-bye.
While I understand that the law is on the Capobiancos' side and it must be followed, I think it's outrageous that Veronica has been treated like a yo-yo who can be taken from one home and one set of parents to another home and another set of parents like it was no big deal! Ever since I learned about this case, I had a hard time understanding why the Capobiancos continued with their crusade to get their adoptive daughter back, when Brown had proven that he not only wanted, but was also capable of raising his biological daughter.
In the end, I hope that all Veronica takes away from this painful ordeal is that there are a bunch of people who love her so much that they'd be willing to do anything for her… if only more kids were so lucky.
