Like all new moms, I'm sure the last thing on Shakira's mind is having to leave her beautiful newborn baby to go back to work. But like any good mami, Shakira has already made arrangements for who'll be in charge of Milan when she becomes a judge for the reality show "The Voice", which starts taping in March. Luckily, Shakira has the help of the best person a first-time mommy can hope to have: her own mom, Nidia Ripoll.
And, according to a source close to the family, Shakira has also asked one of her cousins to be Milan's nanny so her mom won't get tired while she's out taping the show.
Milan is just a few weeks old and I know there's nothing more difficult than having to go back to work so quickly after your baby is born, but Shakira is blessed to have her mom as her boy's caretaker and to be able to have the help of her own cousin. After all, who better to take care of your newborn than your own family?

I lucked out and didn't have to go back to work for a while after my niños were born. But if it hadn't worked out like that, the only person I would've felt comfortable to stay with my kids would've been my mom. Truth is that this is the most normal and typical thing for mamás latinas. Our moms, and in many cases, our grandmothers, are the ones who take care of our kids when we have to go back to work.
I remember that when my niece–who's now 21–was born, my sister asked our abuelita if she could take care of her. And even though she lived in Lima, she didn't hesitate to move to Miami to help raise her great-granddaughter her first year of life. My sister says going back to work was hard as hell, but she felt a lot better knowing her daughter was in the best hands possible. I'm sure Shakira will feel the same way.
