Doctors declare disabled boy dead, but he’s found alive 5 hours later!

What would you do if you took your son to the hospital where they declare him dead, even though you KNOW that's not the case? I can only imagine, but like me, I'm sure you'd do everything in your power to convince the doctors that your son is still alive, right? Well, that's exactly what happened to a Chicago family with their 8-year-old son, Jaylen Dorsey.

The parents of Jaylen–who suffers from a disability that has him bed-ridden and in need of a respirator–took him to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center when they found him unconscious. After various efforts to revive him, doctors declared him dead.

However, seeing that his eyes and body were still moving, Jaylen's parents tried desperately to convince doctors that their child was still alive; the doctors reportedly ignored their pleas, according to the lawsuit filed by the Dorseys against the hospital this past Friday.

Thankfully, Jaylen's parents did not give up and they finally got the hospital to perform a cardiac ultrasound on their son almost FIVE hours after he was declared dead. And guess what? Jaylen was alive! His parents had been right the whole time! Can you even imagine their feeling?

Even though the Dorseys must have felt an incredible happiness, I'm sure they were also LIVID with the doctors in charge of their son's life, especially because they did not listen to them. Who better than a child's own parents to know what's going on with their kids? That's why the family is now suing for $200,000 for damages and suffering and because by being off his ventilator for such a long time, Jaylen was surely negatively affected.

For their part, the hospital has defended the doctors' actions stating that they did nothing wrong. In a press release they've denied any wrong-doing and said that what happened with Jaylen is extremely rare, and it only sometimes happens after an extensive period of resucitation attempts when it involves a young patient, like Jaylen.

Wow… all this sounds like a movie or like one of those medical dramas on television, right? But it's all true and real life. What has be concerned is: I've always said if one day doctors declare me dead, I don't want any attempts to revive me; but this case makes me wonder, what if I'm not completely dead like Jaylen? I just hope my family is able to tell the difference, like Jaylen's parents!
