My daugther Vanessa has always had a good apetite, but lately I've noticed she seems hungrier than ever. I'm sure it has to do with the fact that she's involved in several sports this year and she's burning a lot of calories. Nothing makes me happier than to watch her enjoy what I serve her, especially because she's not picky at all and, other than beans, she pretty much eats everything we give her!
While I make sure my kids eat a balanced and healthy diet, I don't really worry too much about their weight. So I almost killed my mother-in-law the other day when my daughter asked for seconds and she said: "¡Cuidado que te vas a engordar!"
Who the hell tells a 6-year-old to watch what they're eating because they'll get fat? I love my MIL, but I was livid when she said that. I wanted to say something nasty to her, but that would've been disrespectful, so I kept my mouth shut.
Luckily, Vanessa paid no attention to her and kept on eating. In all honesty, I don't think my daughter even knows what "engordar" means. I should've probably said something to my suegra later on that day, but I decided to let it go.
I'm one of those very lucky women who's never really had issues with her weight. I don't obsess over the way I look, but I do give importance to being healthy. One thing I do want to make sure is that my daughter is as confident as possible about her body and her physical appearance.

That's why, even though deep down inside, I'm sure my MIL meant no harm, I was really bothered by the message behind her comment.
