I'm a big fan of funny Tumblr accounts, which is kind of why I found the Sex Questions from Seventh Graders Tumblr, that recently went viral, pretty hysterical.
Unfortunately, the account was pulled off of Tumblr and accompanying Twitter account disappeared. Perhaps the anonymous teacher who posted the handwritten sex questions was afraid that he or she would get found out? Either way, it's made me realize something really important: Parents seriously need to have the Sex Talk with their kids MUCH sooner!

Now, I could probably rant all day about how abstinence-only education in schools is the worst thing to happen children and that I think Sex Ed class should be mandated across the globe but, at the end of the day, it's up to the parents to have "the talk" with their kids–no matter how awkward it is.
I lucked out that my mom told me about sex when I was 5 years old. Okay, I know that might be a bit young for most parents, but she was pregnant with my brother, and I asked. She didn't give me all the gory details but a basic explanation of biology (and her honesty and openness) really gave me the confidence and trust to be able to talk to my mom about these issues later on.

From what I've heard from friends, though, I was the exception to the rule. Most Latino parents that I've encountered either never even dared to have that conversation with their kids or they told them when it was far too late.
Now, I can understand that it's an embarrassing topic of conversation, but if your child is too afraid to ask you: "Is there other ways to have a baby but without having sex?" or "Does porn make your spern stronger"–questions on this Tumblr account–then that's not exactly a good thing, either. That's how kids get in trouble. And by "trouble" I mean pregnant or catching an STD.
Seriously, parents, if you haven't had the talk yet, WHAT are you waiting for?
