The most popular baby names of 2011 have officially been revealed! What were the results? Sophia (a super popular Latina name!) took the top spot for girls while Jacob was number one for boys.
Isabella–ANOTHER fave Latin name– and Emma rounded out the top three female names, while Jacob was followed by Mason (Kourtney Kardashian's son's name) and William. Though Jacob, which has biblical connotations, has been the most popular name for 13 years (!!) in a row, Sophia has been steadily climbing the charts over years. It first entered the top 100 in 1997 and then the top 10 in 2006. Last year, the name was number two.

So what finally knocked the name into first place? Hmm…perhaps, it has something to do with the rising fame of a certain hilarious and sexy Latina celeb who is a modern-day namesake, albeit with a different spelling? Whatever the reason, I'm not at all surprised to see it at the top of the list! Though it has Greek origins, the name has long since been popular among the Latin community –in fact I have a cousin and several Latina friends with the name!

Maybe next year, there will also be a more Latin-sounding boy name at the top as well? Although with William Levy's rising popularity, I don't see that particular moniker dropping off the list any time soon.
