The drama in Miley Cyrus' family—or at least among three of the women in the family—just keeps unfolding like some kind of docu-telenovela. It’s a lot, and the latest episode involves Noah Cyrus liking a thirst trap selfie posted by Miley’s ex-husband Liam Hemsworth, which I’ll get into shortly. But first a little recap so that it all makes some kind of sense.

It all seems to have started when Tish Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus got divorced in 2022. During their marriage, Tish and Billy welcomed three children: daughter Miley, son Braison, and daughter Noah. Billy also adopted two of Tish’s kids from a former relationship: daughter Brandi and son Trace. According to reports by People and TMZ, the divorce caused a rift between the former couple’s kids, with some siding with Tish—Brandi, Trace, and Miley—and some siding with Billy Ray—Noah and Braison.
OK, now let’s work our way backwards through the drama!
Enter Liam Hemsworth as Miley’s hunky ex-husband.
Liam Hemsworth posted a gym mirror selfie on April 5. The man has clearly been working out a lot and has the biceps to prove it. Anyway, eagle-eyed netizens noticed that the post was liked by Noah Cyrus. This is the part where you’re supposed to gasp and clutch your pearls.
Why is it an issue that Noah liked Liam's thirst trap photo?
Because Miley Cyrus, Noah’s older sis, used to be married to Liam. Miley and Liam had a kind of tumultuous relationship. They met in 2009, they dated, broke up, got back together, rinse, repeat, got married in 2018, and divorced in 2020.
Miley and Liam’s relationship did not end amicably, so it’s a little strange that Noah would just casually like a photo of her sister’s ex-hubby. But, of course, there is more to the story because DRAMA!
Tish Cyrus is now Tish Cyrus Purcell.
Tish and Billy Ray Cyrus were married in 1993. They had their ups and downs, which included filing for divorce and reconciling twice. Then Tish filed for divorce again and it stuck in 2022. That same year, Tish started dating Prison Break actor Dominic Purcell and ended up marrying him in August 2023.
Guess who didn’t go to her mom’s wedding?
Noah! Even though the wedding was held at Miley’s home, which is really close to Noah’s home, Noah was not at the wedding. Everyone knows this because the day of the wedding Noah posted pictures of herself wearing a Billy Ray Cyrus T-shirt and hanging out with brother Braison, who also didn’t attend Tish’s wedding.
Why would Noah miss her mom’s wedding?
A source that spoke to People was quoted as saying that Tish and Billy Ray's divorce was not “easy for any of the kids” and that the “separation was really hard, but it was long overdue.”
Maybe Noah and Braison just didn't want to hurt their dad's feelings by attending their mom's wedding.
One theory of why both Noah and Braison didn't attend their mom's wedding is that they just didn't want to hurt Billy Ray's feelings. That's certainly possible, but Billy Ray was already engaged to his current wife, singer Firerose, at the time, so it wasn't like he was pining away for Tish.
There could also be another reason why Noah wasn't at her mom's wedding.
According to sources quoted by several outlets like TMZ, Us Weekly, and People, Noah dated Dominic before her mom Tish did. Yup, daughter dated dude before mother dated dude. Awkward, much?
"Noah and Dominic were seeing each other in a friends with benefits way, off and on. They stopped seeing each other and then Tish started something up," a source told People before adding that "Tish knew [Dominic] had been seeing Noah."
That source also said that “Tish never gave Noah the chance to talk about all of this before they got married." I’m sure that would have been an awkward conversation to have, especially without a therapist involved, but probably still one worth having before the wedding happened.
How does Miley fit into the rift with Tish and Noah?
"Miley had no idea about the drama with Dominic. No idea at all," a source told People. OK, that seems odd, but it’s possible that Miley didn’t know about Noah’s past relationship with Dominic. But at some point, she found out, right?
What did Miley do when she found out both her mom and sister had been with the same guy?
She threw up in her mouth a little. I'm kidding! That's just what I'm imagining. "She confronted her mom about it. She thinks it’s a strange situation, but she loves her mom and wants her to be happy," the “insider” that spoke to People said.
Now, back to the Liam Hemsworth thirst trap situation.
Was Noah throwing Miley shade by liking Liam’s bulging biceps thirst trap photo? Maybe. Or maybe Noah and Liam have no beef and Noah just wanted to be supportive of her ex brother-in-law.
Also, it's been assumed that Miley is not getting along with her dad.
Miley won her first Grammy this year and didn't thank her dad in her acceptance speech. That has many assuming that she and Billy Ray are on the outs. This while Noah and Billy still seem to be very close.
Keep in mind that this is still all chisme.
I consider all of this information that I've shared to be conjecture and chisme at this point because the main players in this supposed family drama have not commented on any of it. Until they either confirm or deny, all we have is a bunch of gossip.
