Bella Thorne opens up about being sexually abused as a child & it’s heartbreaking

Bella Thorne may not have been present at this year's 75th Golden Globe awards, but the actress and young activist still took part in the #MeToo and #TimesUp movement on Sunday evening. The 20-year-old shared her devastating experience of being a victim of sexual and physical abuse as a child.

Bella has been open about her experience with abuse in the past but this is the first time she's gotten this honest or this detailed. We honor and respect her for being brave enough to share such a traumatic and personal experience with the world.

She shared her story on Instagram on Sunday night.

The caption to this photo is so honest and so powerful.

She even shut down a Twitter troll back in December regarding the subject.

In response to a photo Bella had posted, some Twitter jerk wrote: “What did Disney do to this girl?! I think she was molested." But Bella responded with a bold and raw response. “Yeah I was. So it wasn’t Disney,” she wrote.

She’s one of many celebs who have opened up and shared their personal experiences with sexual assault since the Harvey Weinstein allegations.

America Ferrera opened up back in October about being sexually assaulted when she was 9 years old. It was her way of encouraging women and victims of abuse to break their silence.

Gabrielle Union shared her own sexual assault experience in October.

She tweeted this all in efforts to break down myths and misconceptions about sexual abuse victims and why they stay silent.

A lot of women have #MeToo stories.

But like Oprah said, “A new day is on the horizon,” and we will no longer remain silent.
