Lizzie Velasquez, called “Ugliest Woman in the World,” inspires in new movie + her brave journey in 10 photos

Lizzie Velasquez touched us when we first heard about her in 2012. The 26-year-old Texas native, who was called "The ugliest woman on YouTube," suffers from a rare condition that prevents her from gaining weight. Now she's sharing her journey in a new documentary, A Brave Heart, premiering this month. Watch the trailer and follow her amazing story.

The documentary, A Brave Heart, will showcase Velasquez's emotional journey towards finding self love and acceptance. "All I know is being knocked down and getting back up," she says in the trailer. The movie premieres on September 25. Check out more info here.

The beginning

As a 17-year-old, Velasquez was bullied constantly. She suffers from neonatal progeroid syndrome, a super rare disorder. She decided to share her story in a video that generated over 4 million views. Online bullies named her "Ugliest Woman in the World," and her message against anti-bullying grew even stronger.

In 2013, Velasquez spoke at the TEDxAustinWomen conference and blew everyone away. "Now I want to end with asking you again, I want you leave here and ask yourself, what defines you? But remember brave starts here," she said.
