Purge unwanted items

Start the new year fresh by getting rid of unwanted clutter and reorganizing your closet and storage. Clearing out your kid's space could be one of the most daunting tasks since it's difficult to toss certain items. Dr. Debi Silber, author of A Pocket Full of Mojo: 365 Proven Strategies To Create Your Ultimate Body, Mind, Image and Lifestyle, suggests taking just 30 minutes each day to organize a specific area in the house. Once you know which items you want to keep, create a "file box" for each family member with labels for an organized and clutter-free space.

Do a spiritual cleanse

After the holidays, everyone is emotionally and financially spent. Author of Debt Proof Living, Mary Hunt suggests laying out all of your bills, receipts and pay stubs. "It wouldn't hurt to lay everything out and snap a picture," she says. Once you have a clear picture, figure out certain areas where you can save more and keep record of your new 2015 savings goal.

You want to welcome the new year with a fresh set of goals and resolutions. Before 2014 ends, try to look back at some short term goals that you have always been avoiding. Whether it's painting your living room or making peace with a family member, crossing it off your list before the new year will help you feel empowered and leave you prepared to conquer more.

Make more "you" time
