The video below of a man walking into a burning building made me burst into tears and touched my heart and soul so much that I have to share it with you. The video was taken on Saturday morning at around 8:15 a.m. in Fresno, California as a duplex went up in flames. BethLederach was driving by the scene, pulled over, called 911 and then started shooting this video. Ledrach says, "I was pretty shaken up about it. As I got out of the car, this woman came up with this baby and said, 'My dad is in there! My dad is in there!' I didn't know what to do. I felt so helpless." There were quite a few people standing around feeling helpless waiting for firefighters to arrive and then out of nowhere a man appears and what he did is astounding.

At around the 50 second mark of the video a man wearing a Dodgers hat, no one knows who this guy is, walks up. He calmly walks into the building and disappears for what feels like forever and then there is a huge explosion, you see people scrambling and this man in the Dodgers hat comes walking out of the smoke carrying the dad over his shoulder like some kind of superhero, which clearly his is. Ledrach says, "I couldn't believe it. I was so relieved, I just wanted to cry."
The rescued man had been hooked up to an oxygen tank inside the home because of respiratory problems. After the dramatic rescue, he was taken to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.
The reason why this touches me so much is because the hero in this case was just a random man following his instincts. It's amazing and a reminder that there are truly good and courageous people walking among us, people who will risk their own life to save a stranger. I like people, I care about people, but I'm pretty sure I would not walk into a burning building to save a stranger. It takes an extraordinary kind of person to do that.
