The story that I'm about to tell you makes my heart swell which is a very good thing especially since I recently told you the story of Lamar Hawkins III who was bullied so much that he took his own life while at school. That story made me worry about our youth and their lack of kindness, but this story of two high school girls Naomi Martinez and Anahi Alvarez from Grand Prairie High School in North Texas who took a mean-spirited prank and turned it into a beautiful gesture reminds me that kindness is not dead.
Some mean kids at the school decided to prank a student named Lillian Skinner and tell her that she was on the homecoming ballot when she wasn't. Why? Because they were being mean jerks. Well, Naomi and Anahi who are friends with Lillian and were on the homecoming ballot did something amazing for their friend.

Naomi says, "We promised each other and we were like, 'No matter what, no backing down. If one of us wins we're giving Lillian the crown.'" Well, guess what? One of them did win. Anahi Alvarez was voted homecoming queen and during the school's football game the announcement was made and then Principal Lorimer Arendse said to the crowd, "Anahi is honoring a very hard working senior with her crown. We would like to announce Lillian Skinner, please step up and receive this honor."
Can you believe that? Isn't it one of the awesomest stories you've ever heard? I love these young ladies. I don't even know them and I'm so unbelievably proud of them.
It is so easy to focus on the negative, the bullying, the ugly, but we need to acknowledge the wonderful just as often. We need to recognize and celebrate kindness and goodwill whenever we see it exhibited, that's the only way it will continue to grow.
You should really watch the clip below because it lets you see how wonderful all three of the girls involved in this story really are. They are quite inspiring.
