I've tried out different ways to keep foods fresh and some work while others fail to do their job. You would be surprised to know that the best ways to keep your food from going bad are simple and inexpensive.

Some of these methods are downright genius and are excellent ways to also save money. If you could extend the life of your favorite fruits, wouldn't you do it? Check out our sneaky ways to keep your foods lasting longer.

Keep bananas longer: Covering the stems of a batch of bananas with saran wrap can keep them fresher longer for up to two to five days.

Use glass containers: Instead of storing your leftovers in plastic tupperware, opt for storing it in a glass container. Mason jars for example are not only safe, but help your food last longer than you expected.

Genius onion tip: Keep your onions fresh by storing them in your pantyhose! Believe it or not, they can stay fresh this way for up to eight months.

Keep those berries fresh: Mix your berries with one part vinegar and ten parts water. Then drain them before placing them in the fridge again. They should last you another week or two.

Make veggies wither-free: For veggies such as broccoli, celery, and lettuce, wrap them in aluminum foil before storing them in the fridge. This will keep them fresher for another four weeks! 

Salad greens and herbs: Don't you hate how wilted greens get? Keep them crisp by dividing them into plastic bags and fill them with air before sealing it. Make sure the greens are dry first!

Lemon and lime can also help: Use these citrus fruit to preserve apples and avocados by squeezing the juice on them before storing.
