5 Signs it’s finally time to quit your job!

Figuring out when and how to leave a job is always difficult. There are just so many factors to take into consideration. How are you supposed to know if it's the right time? What if you leave and dislike your next job even more? After all, doesn't everyone get fed up with their work at times? If you're not sure what's keeping you tied to your workplace, it might be time to re-evaluate and figure out if staying is really worth it. Below, 5 signs it's finally time to quit your job:

  1. You're bored out of your mind: At some point or another, most people feel as if their job is getting monotonous and repetitive. That being said, having a set routine isn't the same thing as losing all interest in your job. Anyone can just get through the day, but who would want to do that when you could be and working on things you actually care about? If you catch yourself robotically going through the motions at work or not feeling any of the passion as you did when you started, it could mean it's time to move on to another project that really captures your attention.

  2. You're getting the Sunday blues: The weekends winding down and you should be taking the last few hours of the night to relax before a busy week ahead. Instead, you're getting an anxious, nervous feeling in the pit of your stomach. Why is that? Maybe you just don't like Mondays (who does?), but that alone shouldn't make you feel like you're having a minor panic attack after every weekend. Consider if it's the ordinary stress of everyday life or the thought of going to work that's making you dread the start of the week.

  3. It's giving you nightmares: Sounds silly, but the things that worry us while awake tend to follow us into our dreams. In high school, I spent a horrendous 3.5 months working for a major bra and lingerie retailer. Even after I finally quit (which I should have done a lot sooner), I continued to have recurring dreams of myself folding endless rows of women's underwear and shoving hundreds of bras into drawers. Seriously, I shudder now just thinking about it! If you can't sleep because your job has actually turned into your worst nightmare, take it as a sign you should leave.

  4. It's literally making you sick: The wrong job actually can make you physically ill. If you're constantly feeling badly or have developed chronic headaches, back pain, or intestinal issues, first check with a doctor. If you get the all-clear, then it could be your occupation that's making you feel under the weather.

  5. You're only it for the paycheck. Sure, money is good and necessary for survival. But staying at a job you hate when there could be other opportunities out there for you could be hurting you in other, non-financial ways (see numbers 2-4). Though the overly practical part of yourself (which probably sounds an awful lot like your mom or abuela) might be telling you to stay, you should always go with your gut. If it's telling you to move on, listen up and find a better fit.
