Victor Cruz honors Sandy Hook victim with special tribute during NY Giants game

In the still too sore wake of the Sandy Hook school shooting, one Latino star has found his own sweet way to pay tribute to one of the young victims of the massive tragedy. New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz has honored Jack Pinto, one of his biggest fans who met an unfortunate end in the Newton, Connecticut, massacre, at last night's football game against the Atlanta Falcons in the Georgia Dome. After finding out that the 6-year-old was a huge fan, Victor decided to write tribute messages all over his shoes, including "Jack Pinto, My Hero" and "R.I.P. Jack Pinto".

In a game that must have weighed heavily on him every time he sat down and looked at his feet, Victor Cruz really did the sweetest thing on the planet by caring so much for one of his fans. Not only did he honor the child, one of 20 killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School last Friday, but he also called the family on Saturday night to offer his condolences. To his surprise, he found out that Jack was such a big fan that the family was even considering burying the child in a Cruz jersey, according to the New York Daily News. Victor describes the conversation:

There are no words that can describe the type of feeling you get when a kid idolizes you so much that they want to, unfortunately, put him in a casket with your jersey on. I can't even explain it. I was in the hotel (in Atlanta) and as I was talking to them I was fighting back tears. You could hear everybody in the background crying as well. It was tough to listen to.

Although the Giants didn't win their game, I am still really impressed and touched by Victor's gesture. I can't even imagine talking to one of the victim's families right now, especially Jack's 11-year-old brother that Victor spoke with. He told him to stay strong and "to stay positive and I'm going to help the family any way I can." In the wake of this terrible tragedy, it's nice to know that some of us still have a lot of heart. Good job, Victor, you've really touched my heart and, I'm sure, the hearts of many.
