Amazing 6-year-old cancer patient helps give kids in hospital a happy Halloween

Every now and then, I come across a story that just warms my heart and renews my faith in the world. That's exactly how I felt after reading about 6-year-old brain cancer patient Nico Castro.

Last month, Castro was thrilled after learning he wouldn't have to spend his favorite holiday, Halloween, in the California hospital where he gets his chemotherapy treatments….until he remembered all of the other ill kids who would be stuck there. Instead of just brushing it off like many other young children would though, Castro decided to take action.

The little boy, who was diagnosed a year ago, recruited his family to help him start a Halloween costume drive __for the kids in the hospita__l–and the results were better than anyone could have ever predicted! Castro managed to raise $1,200 in cash and collect 166 costumes that were either purchased or donated. Hundreds of people also donated holiday-themed books, toys, and movies, which Castro gave to the other patients as well.

When asked why he decided to make such efforts, Castro simply said, "The kids in the hospital. They can't go trick-or treating."

Aww! Isn't that just amazing? Only six years old and this little boy is already doing more for the world than many adults! What a big heart! Plus now, he can rest easy and enjoy his favorite holiday (he's planning on dressing up as the Dark Knight this year), knowing that he provided some fun to the other kids in the hospital.

Happy Halloween, Nico!
