I don't know what's happened to me in the past year, but I've suddenly become a coffee drinker. It might not sound weird coming from a Latina, but I never drank coffee up until my late 20's. I'm still learning about the different types out there, but so far I've found that my favorite is iced coffee.
It's particularly my favorite beverage to have on hot summer days and you can't go wrong with that. In fact, I decided to add my own little health and weight loss twist to it that you're going to absolutely love!

For awhile I'd been seeing gym rats drinking coffee from their protein shake bottles in the morning and I'd find it strange. Some people do say coffee gives them the energy they need to start off their workouts, but later I learned a little secret. They mix their protein powder along with it to supercharge their workout and metabolism first thing in the a.m. It also provides them with the protein they need for muscle building and recovery after exercising.
I decided to give this mix a shot and it was the best idea ever! If you don't like the taste of super strong coffee, then this is the perfect way to have your cafecito in the morning. Plus it will taste like you're having a milkshake which isn't a bad way to start your day.
Here is what you will need to make your own iced coffee protein shake:
1 cup of coffee
1/2 cup of almond milk (or however you desire your coffee)
1 scoop of protein powder (I used Garden of Life RAW protein powder)
1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
1 frozen banana
Directions: Brew the coffee first, pour into mug and let cool in the freezer. In a blender add the cooled down coffee, banana, the milk (add more if necessary), protein powder, vanilla extract and add ice. Blend until smooth and pour into a glass. Add more ice cubes if desired.
