7 Easy all-natural ways to ease pain

I'm no health expert, but when it comes to easing pain, I've got it mastered. I've experienced more aches and pains than most girls my age (late twenties!) and with that has come a lot of trial and error. Sometimes over-the-counter pain relievers just don't cut it, and prescription pills many times come with side effects–especially if you have an already sensitive stomach like mine.

But what a lot of people don't realize is there are a ton of natural ways to ease pains even the most chronic ones. You don't have to tough it out or resort to popping pills every time. Believe me, sometimes natural pain relief alternatives are the best. Check out a few of the most affective ones below!

Massages: You'd be surprised how effective a massage could be when it comes to back pain, headaches, neck pain, osteoarthritis, or even surgery-related discomfort. Lately I've been suffering from tension headaches almost daily. Instead of popping a pill I give myself a head massage using a scalp massager. Whoever came up with this thing is a genius!

Use a heating pad: Nothing eases a back pain or even menstrual cramps quite like a heating pad. You can use an electrical one or the hot water bottle ones. Thermacare Air-Activated HeatWraps ($7) are perfect for on the go.

Aloe vera: I swear this stuff is magic. Ever since I started taking aloe vera supplements and drinking the juice, I've experienced less abdominal pain, less constipation, and less bladder discomfort. That's because it's a natural anti-inflammatory that helps sooths the digestive tract, and contains healing properties. I take two to three capsules a day. But aloe vera juice in its purest form is also if not more effective.

Yoga: Yoga can help with any pain from lower-back pain, to arthritis, migranes, and in my case abdominal pain. It not only helps you stretch your muscles but promotes relaxation. Look for certain poses that can help with your specific problem.

Meditation: I'm not saying it's all in your head, but sometimes stress can trigger certain pains. To lower your stress levels and get yourself to a more relaxed state, try meditating for a few minutes a day. And don't worry about not knowing how to mediate. Simple breathing exercises are quite effective.

Exercise: Working out might seem like it's only going to make your discomfort worse, but research shows that if you're careful, enough exercise can actually help ease pain. And no one suggesting you run a marathon. Start with power walks, or strengthening and aerobic exercises.

Herbal teas: Whenever my stomach is killing me with pain, I boil some dried oregano or anise seeds in water and drink it like a tea. They heal an upset stomach better than anything else I've ever tried.
