If you are a diet soda drinker, you may want to put the fizzy drink down as it appears that it can ruin your teeth the same way crack cocaine and meth do. Yep: That drink you down every day may seem harmless, but new studies have shown that it can cause the same tooth erosion that drugs do.

The shocking discovery was made after Dr. Mohamed Bassiouny, a professor of restorative dentistry at Temple University, studied the teeth of a diet soda drinker and two crack and meth addicts. The similarities were so shocking that they can even be categorized together due to the single quality they share that causes the erosion.
The Huffington Post says the study showed that in a matter of three to five years the subject in her thirties who had been drinking over two liters of diet soda daily, and the crack and meth addicts respectively experienced the same dental damage from their bad habits.
The Academy of General Dentistry shared that the reason the three people experience the damage on their teeth was because of the highly acid content that the drugs and soda have. The acid wore away the teeth enamel which made them more susceptible to other dental problems. Dr. Bassiouny came up with the concept that drug abusers dont take care of themselves and combined it with the same traits that diet soda drinkers also have.
It's no secret that soda in general isn't good for you. So the next time you reach for that can of diet, consider this: The sugars in the beverage are bad for your teeth and the acidity can literally rot them to the point of making you look like a drug addict. That's never a good look on anyone! Instead, opt for less acidic and sugary beverages that won't ruin your pearly whites. Trust me, the last thing you want is do is walk around toothless and skinny!
