Losing weight isn't the easiest thing when there are calorie-rich foods pretty much everywhere. I'm one of those people that prefers to eat smaller meals and snack in between, but I hate that my only options seem to be high-in-fat chips and desserts or lower-in-calorie but terrible in flavor. Companies are getting smarter, though, and now creating "mid-calorie snacks:" those that have more taste but a bit more calories than the "light" snacks of the past. Are they a good idea?

Those of us who have ever dieted by buying low-calorie, low-sodium, low-fat, low-sugar foods that they simply don't taste that great. So what are we to do? It's honestly a really difficult choice between too many calories or no flavor. Luckily for us, though, companies are getting a little smarter, according to Boston.com:
But snack brands like Dreyer's/Edy's ice cream, Hershey's chocolate and Lay's potato chips are trying to solve this age-old dieter's dilemma by rolling out so-mid-calorie goodies that have more fat and calories than the snacks of earlier diet crazes but less than the original versions. They're following the lead of soda companies like Pepsi and Dr Pepper that introduced mid-calorie drinks last year.

I'm not completely sure how I feel about these snacks, to be honest. I'm not really a fan of those flavorless low-cal snacks, but I also don't want the full-fat ones. I guess there's just no easy answer, is there? For now, I think I will give these a chance–but also be careful because, honestly, it's probably better to snack on a piece of fruit anyway.
