Stop me if you've never done this: After a long, hard day at work, you get home and immediately reach for a pint of ice cream. Okay, so it's a complete stereotype that we women do this but, in my case, I've definitely given in to the intense sugar cravings after a bad day. And I bet I'm not the only one, either.
Now science is actually saying that not only is this typical behavior, but also that women who are stressed out at work are actually more susceptible to diabetes thanks to our terrible stress eating habits. Uh-oh!

Likely due to the fact that women and men actually handle stress differently, a nine-year study by researchers at the Institute for Work and Health and the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences has revealed that job stress actually doubles the risk of diabetes in women while men do not feel the same effect at ALL.
Lead author Peter Smith suggests that the increase in diabetes for women is that women are "more likely to turn to foods with higher fat and sugar content than men" when they are in jobs with "low job control", meaning that they're not happy in their work.

Apparently that might not be such a huge concern if you're a working mom, though, since another study last week found that moms who work full-time are actually healthier than moms who stay at home, work part-time or those that work sporadically. Either way, it seems that the key to staying healthy at work is job satisfaction. Being happy at work will not only keep you healthier (and lower your risk of diabetes), but it's also just going to be good for your mental health, too.
