My family loves when I make meals that can be adapted to fit their individual tastes. These dishes are usually easy to make, affordable and fun. This "made-to-order" food can be made with quesadillas, tacos and pizza. Take a look at my make-your-own pizza recipe.
This week I tried this custom-made approach with omelette and it was a hit!

First, I prep the ingredients for the "bar" and then I put them into individual bowls so that each family member can choose their favorite. You can even do the prep work the night before and store them in containers. I usually don't cook most of the ingredients before adding them to the omelette but I have seen that some people sauté some of them before adding. It's up to you!
Here's a great video on making the perfect omelette:

Like the chef on the video, I use three eggs per omelette and add salt and ground pepper. I also add garlic powder. I put the "filler" ingredients into individual bowls and line them up on a table so that each person can choose their favorite ingredients. Each person then puts a tablespoon of each ingredient in a bowl, mixing 2 to 4 ingredients max per omelette. Either I make all of the omelette or each person makes their own.
Here are some of our favorite ingredients that you can use as filling:
- Onion family: Scallions, yellow or red onions or chives
- Cheeses: Cheddar, Manchego, Gruyère, Muenster, Monterrey Jack, Feta, Mozzarella or Goat
- Veggies: Cubed tomatoes, sliced mushrooms, green or bell peppers, broccoli, chopped spinach
- Herbs: Cilantro, parsley, basil
- Meats: Pepperoni, cooked bacon, ham or sausage
- Other: Chopped jalapeños, sliced olives
Buen provecho!
