Cupcakes: A great way to make it seem like you spent the time to make cupcakes is by buying them plain then adding your own frosting and toppings such as sprinkles. Genius!
Fancy platters: By adding a shiny or fancy platter to hold your food, you will trick your guests into thinking you took extra time and effort to make it. Adding garnish is also a nice touch.
Appetizers: Have you ever noticed how easily cheese can dress up an appetizer platter? Buy a few different cheeses to offer guests as well as different flavored jams and olives to munch on.
Other desserts: Make sure to buy pastries from farmer's markets as they will taste fresher an can easily pass as homemade. Bonus: if you buy brownies or cake, freeze it for 10 minutes before cutting to make it easier to slice evenly.
Pre-made dough: Buy pre-made doughs such as Pillsbury crescents or biscuits that can be made in less than 30 minutes. Get creative and fill them with your favorite sweet ingredients for dessert or add cheese for a foolproof appetizer.
