I tend to prefer things that are a bit outside of the box–you know, the projects that use unconventional materials or repurpose convential ones. Below are six projects I love that do just that. Take a look and let us know which one you would like for your home.

Even if you're not into frilly pink ruffles, you can use this technique to create gorgeous custom pillow covers out of repurposed table runners and/or placemats.

If you used your existing table runner to make the pillow covers described in the previous slide, you'll be needing a new one. This modern burlap and ribbon version can be thrown together in mere minutes and will cost you just a few dollars.

Is it strange that I spent weeks trying to decide which changing pad cover to buy for my son's nursery? All of the ones I really loved were way too expensive, so I ended up buying a basic one on clearance that matched our color scheme, but had a seen this no-sew tutorial I would have just made my own.

My teeny tiny Pomeranians have been through so many dog beds in the past 11 years that I can't even keep count. Had I known I could make them so easily I would have bought a reem of fabric just to keep for that purpose. Not only do I love the look of this no-sew dog bed, I also love the practicality of it.

With just a couple of yards of fleece fabric and a pair of scissors you can fashion a warm, cozy blanket perfect for fall football games, lounging on the couch or even camping trips. This project is so easy, you can even recruit yor kiddos to help.

No-Sew Curtains

Window treatments are flipping expensive and I've found that they are hardly ever on sale. I've been in my apartment for over three years and still don't have curtains in every room. I love this idea of using a table cloth or bed sheet–even better if you find one on clearance–to create super simple and attractive window panels.
