This morning, emboldened by yesterday's announcement that Spain-based Zara was launching a home store, I started browsing for some "decorating porn", as I call it and I stopped dead cold when I saw the gorgeous orange-and-lime kitchen featured on ApartmetTherapy.com.
What I loved about this kitchen is how Viveca used bright colors to liven up her "Warm & Spicy" Kitchen room. She's got some great examples of how color can dramatically change a drab kitchen into a fabulous one, so I wanted to share some super-easy tips for doing it yourself. Here are the 3 simple ways to liven up your kitchen with color!

1. Pick a color scheme: Like in this photo from Apartment Therapy, it's best to stick with a particular color tone. Don't just throw any colors in there. Instead, be very careful about how you want to brighten up your kitchen. Try the burnt orange and lime. Go for neon green, yellow, and blue. Experiment with wine red and a black/white theme. Make sure your colors coordinate with your countertops and cabinets, too. Have your colors work WITH your kitchen, instead of throwing anything on there.
2. Paint your walls: I know it may sound kind of obvious, but I find that people often forget that they can paint the walls of their kitchen. Sometimes there's just not a lot of wall (for instance, if you have tile in between your sink and cabinets). Other times, we just don't realize it. Either way, take out that paintbrush and do the same as you did in the rest of your house! Pick a warm and inviting food-friendly color, like a bright orange or create a pattern with blues, greens, and yellows.
3. Get bright chairs: Well, it doesn't necessarily have to be a chair, but any bright-colored accessory will work. I love the fact that she picked orange chairs to go with the orange walls. My kitchen is a mix of white, black, and red, so I have a big red teapot constantly sitting on my stove and a big red vase for flowers on the table. Little pops of color work here, and don't forget to follow rule number 1 and make sure that they stick to whatever color scheme you picked out in the beginning. Happy decorating!
