Coronavirus nail art is a thing & now we’ve seen it all

While most of us are over here trying not to bite our nails over the spread of the new coronavirus disease, COVID-19, across the globe, there are those who are perfectly happy to get the coronavirus put on their nails. OK, so not the actual coronavirus, but art representing COVID-19. That's right: Coronavirus nail art is now a thing, and now we're over here scratching our heads in confusion. Since when did diseases become the new inspiration for nail art? Is it meant to be funny? Or is it just in bad taste?

Granted, coronavirus nail art does not seem to be spreading at the same rate as COVID-19, and it isn't contagious or hazardous to your health–unless you go to a shoddy salon–but WHY? Why spend good money to put art dedicated to a disease that has taken the lives of over 4,000 people thus far on your nails? We're all for using humor to cope; it's natural. That's why there are so many dang memes about every dang thing around. But we seem to be missing the joke in this instance.

In the end, it's just nail art and not something of real importance like, say, containing the spread of COVID-19, so we're not all up in arms or fingers about it. It's just interesting to see, and we thought we'd share the coronavirus nail art we've come across with you so that you can make up your own mind about whether it's funny, beautiful, tasteless, or all of the above. Ret, set, go take a look!

Here's an example from a nail salon in Vietnam.

As of March 8, Vietnam reported having 31 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country with no deaths. The public has reacted to the coronavirus outbreak by stocking up on instant noodles more recently, and before that mouthwash was on everyone's shopping list. The demand for instant noodles went up by 68%, and the demand for mouthwash went up by 78%.

This example has impressive 3D details.

The 3D depictions of coronaviruses and face masks are impressive for sure. There were no details included with the video to give credit to the artist or explain why the nail art was created in the first place, so we can't tell you what the motivation was or whether it was just a one-time thing done for "fun" or per the request of a customer.

This just seems impractical.

You wouldn't want one of those giant coronavirus models falling off and into your food. You can hardly even see any nail under each one. Perhaps it's just a way for nail artists to show off their skills, because we can't imagine anyone actually wanting to walk around with those nails. Can you?

This is perhaps the most tasteful version we've seen.

Compared to the other examples, these nails are utterly refined. The base color is a lovely neutral, and the coronaviruses almost look like little puff balls. Still, there are so many other things we'd rather see on nails than viruses.

OK, this one is kinda funny.

Part of the caption on this post reads, "the ONLY coronavirus readiness nails Lysol kills 99.9% of viruses and bacteria! so make sure to panic purchase your mini thumb-sized canisters in Crisp Linen scent now!!" We found this one amusing because people really are going overboard on their panic purchases. Don't be the person who buys all the disinfectant, toilet paper, and water at the store.
