The political and economic situation in Venezuela is definitely devastating. And just when I thought things couldn't get any worse, now I'm hearing that the country is also facing a public health crisis as well, leaving citizens with no treatments or medication for their illnesses. But what I can't understand is, if this country is suffering from such a shortage in medical supplies why are there so many desperate women turning to cheap, black-market breast implants? Seriously, is a boob job really that important?

When I first heard about the public health crisis going on in Venezuela it brought me to tears. There are literally hundreds of people walking around with illnesses like HIV-AIDS and the Chikungunya virus, that are incapable of receiving treatment. People are dying. So it's absolutely INSANE to me that there are actually women there that are obsessing over breast implants. ¡Dios mío!
There's such a scarcity of quality breast implants that a lot of these women are going to doctors that are giving them subpar implants. Most of them are the same size, of poor quality and come from China. Even the supplies needed for the surgery itself is limited which obviously leads to a ton of health risks. Why would you even consider taking that chance?
It just goes to show how beauty-obsessed women in Venezuela really are that they're willing to even get implants in the wrong size. According to Ramon Zapata, president of the Society of Plastic Surgeons, Venezuelan women "are very concerned with their self-esteem'" and it's not all that surprising. Especially considering the high plastic surgery rates in that country. Around 85,000 breast implants procedures were performed just last year and that's even with the shortage going on. This is unbelievable!
In a country that's struggling so much, it's so sad to see these women putting their appearance even before their health. How can they even think about boob jobs at a time like this? It just makes absolutely no sense to me. My heart really goes out to Venezuela and all of its citizens. No one deserves to live like that!
