I've personally never been a fan of men in Speedos unless they're Olympian swimmers (read: Ryan Lochte) because the majority can't pull off the look. They end up looking like pervs who are far too hairy and usually not in the best shape to wear them. However, every year there is always that one confident man who think he looks cute sporting them, but that is the least of my worries now. That's because there's a new swimsuit trend for guys that puts the speedo to shame.
I'm talking about the String Lateral Flash also known as half a g-string. Ugh, you need to see this mess for yourself…

When I first saw a picture of guys wear this half g-string bottom I sincerely thought it was some silly internet joke. It's hilarious at first glance because of how ridiculous it looks. That is until I did further research and learned that it is a REAL thing. It's bad enough I can't unsee Borat's mankini, but now this?
The brains behind this unnecessary g-string are French clothing brand Alter. The swimsuits were first spotted on British reality TV show stars Bobby Norris and Harry Debridge of The Only Way is Essex during one of their shoots recently. Even though both men are in good shape, it still looks SUPER weird. This half-made swimsuit looks like a ball-hugger side hammock for men … I really don't see how it's supposed to stay on!
Alter's site says that the String Lateral Flash goes for 22 euros (or about $30 U.S. dollars) and is available is sizes small, medium, and large. That's confusing because where exactly are you measuring when you're trying to determine your size? And if you buy $288 worth of these babies, you'll get free shipping! Gee, because I can see many men stocking up on these like it's the Victoria's Secret semi-annual sale.
I know men only have a few types of swimsuits to choose from and there's a reason for that. I mean, there aren't many ways you can cover up your junk that isn't borderline flashing the public. However, I don't think this excuse for a g-string is a good idea. Not only is it risky if a huge wave hits you in the ocean (buh-bye ball hammock), but you just look ridiculous. Hopefully this trend doesn't catch on because otherwise it will make for many awkward visits to the beach this summer.
