Are plus-sized models actually plus-sized?

It's taken years for the fashion industry to finally embrace plus-sized models, but it looks like they still have a long way to go. In fact, according to PLUS Model Magazine and SWAK, a plus-size design boutique, the world still isn't ready for fully curved chicas. They r__ecently conducted an experiment featuring two photos of plus-size model Alex LaRosa__ side to side. One photo featured LaRosa in a tight dress showing off her hips and all. But the second picture downplayed her curves, making her appear significantly slimmer. Guess which picture voters preferred?

Believe it or not, it was actually a tie. Half of the voters preferred the curvier pose, the other half went for the conservative look. You'd think that everyone would go for the picture where the model is fully embracing her curves, right?

"We naturally though Pic A would win in a landslide since it shows Alex rocking her curves proudly," blog editor Marcy Cruz wrote.

But it appears that people still aren't embracing plus-size models as much as they should. PLUS Model Magazine editor-in-chief Madeline Jones claims that most fashion ads feature women that aren't even really plus-sized. How insane is that?

"The hot topic is model sizes. I'm a size 22/24 woman and I find it very difficult to shop online because most of the models are very small," Jones said. "There are brands that do not use plus size models at all and occasionally will use  a size 10 or 12."

I'm sorry, but how is a size 10 or 12 plus-size? If these industries can't even use real plus-models, how can we expect women to start feeling better about their bodies? And this experiment proves that it's not just the industry that prefers to see smaller women it's us too.

I'd like to see more models size 16 and up gracing the covers of magazines and fashion ads and I like to see more people out there embracing it. After all, there's nothing more attractive than a proud woman with curves!
