I have had a lifelong battle with my curly hair. When I was younger, it was super long (all the way down to my waist!) so my natural waves weren't as much of a problem since they were mostly confined to the very ends of my hair. But after cutting my hair much shorter some time in high school, it's been way harder to control my curls! And unlike those days, I no longer have the time to flat-iron their hair straight every single day.
Luckily, our fashion and beauty writer, Johanna Ferreira, decided to help me out by letting me experiment with two hair products designed specifically for taming curly hair: the pharmacy staple Garnier Fructis Style Curl Sculpting Cream-Gel ($4.29) and the pricier Mixed Chicks Leave-in Conditioner ($16.99).
So which one was best able to contain my wild tresses (not an easy feat!)? Read on to find out!
The Garnier Fructis Curl Sculpting Cream did a great job at de-frizzing my curls without taking away any of their natural volume. I also like that the product comes in levels, like "Strong Hold" or "Extra Strong," depending on the unruliness of your curls. Plus, it made my hair smell AMAZING all day long! The cons? The product itself is kind of heavy so I had to be really careful of how much I used. Too little didn't really do anything, but too much gave my hair that sticky, hairspray crunchy feeling that every girl hates. Maybe it's because my hair is on the thinner side, but I felt like it couldn't really handle all that product.

That's also why the second item, Mixed Chicks Leave-in Conditioner, is the winner! Though Garnier Fructis might be more affordable, I think this product is definitely worth the extra cash. Why? Instead of simply adding more hold to my hair, the conditioner basically acted as an enhancer to my natural curls. So, it added bounce and shine to make my ringlets more defined but also felt much lighter on my hair.
The only downside was that it didn't have as much of a scent as the Garnier cream…but I think I can live with that since the overall product was so effective!
