As beauty conscious as I may be, I still have my days when I sleep in my makeup (terrible, I know) and I'm super lazy about putting on lotion, something you can't really get away with during the colder winter months. So this year I plan on turning over a whole new leaf, and creating a much healthier beauty routine. Check out a few of my beauty resolutions below–that you should make too!–to make 2013 an even more beautiful year!

Don't go to bed with makeup still on

You should already know by now that sleeping in your makeup can lead to pesky breakouts and dark under-eye circles the following morning. Too lazy to wash your face before bed?  Keep a pack of makeup remover wipes by your nightstand. Now there's no excuse to sleep with a dirty face!

Don't use a moisturizer without SPF

Even in the winter you should be protecting your skin from the sun. Never step out of the house without applying a moisturizer that contains at least SPF 30. While we’re on the safe sun topic, make sure to schedule a skin cancer screening with your dermatologist as well. Better safe than sorry right?

See a dermatologist

I can’t stress enough how necessary it is to schedule an annual dermatology visit.  Of course the most important reason to see a dermatologist is to have your skin evaluated for skin cancer, cut also with the proper evaluation you can find out what are the right products for your specific skin concerns. Dermatologist also offer an array of effective treatments to help you achieve younger and healthier skin. You have nothing to lose.

Get a regular facial

I’ll be the first to admit I don’t get professional facials as often as I should. But a good facial not only cleanses and exfoliates the skin, it also helps to ward off wrinkles and other signs of aging. Try to book a facial with a professional esthetician at least four times a year, for a healthy, glowy complexion.

Use anti-aging products

You're never too young to start protecting your skin from signs of aging. Determine what your skin type and needs are before hitting the beauty department stores.

Do a weekly hair mask treatment

To keep hair healthy and hydrated, you want to try to apply a deep conditioning hair mask treatment to your tresses at least once a week. This is especially important if you color or heat style your hair. A hair mask will help restore, dry brittle hair, leaving it smooth and shiny!

Do a breast exam

Try examining yourself your breast in the shower at least once a month. Take your first two fingers and move your hand around in a circular motion to check for any abnormal bumps. Make sure to consult with a doctor immediately if you notice anything different. If you're 40 years of age or older, you should get a mammogram done every one to two years.

Clean your cell phone often

Whenever I notice breakouts on just the right side of my face, I know it’s from all the dirt and bacteria that’s accumulated on my cell phone. Gross right? If you have a touch screen phone, make sure to gently wipe it down using a tissue or alcohol swab at least once a day.

Update your beauty regimen

As we get older our skin changes and so should our beauty regimen. Set aside some time to figure out what your current beauty needs are to help you determine what products you now need to incorporate into your regular routine.

Use an eye cream

My mami always told me that the secret to a young-looking face is a really good eye cream. So to prevent any crows feet from appearing around your eyes, try applying a rich and moisturizing eye cream every morning and night. This will help keep the skin around your eyes tight and smooth.
