Selena Gomez got her first acting gig on Barney & Friends when she was 10 years old. She then went on to star in Wizards of Waverly Place from 2007 to 2012. Fast forward to today and she’s a pop star, the most followed woman on Instagram, a billionaire business woman, and her acting credits just keep growing. All this to say that she’s been in the public eye for most of her life and has walked many a red carpet in style throughout.
Lately, her red carpet style has been impeccable. But it’s not really surprising. I took a deep dive into her many red carpet appearances and Selena has a long history of looking dang good at glam events. She even managed to do that whole Disney child actor to full grown adult transition rather smoothly. See for yourself.

She wore red, which has become one of her signature colors. The Grecian-inspired gown was designed by Dolce & Gabbana in a chiffon fabric that made it seem airy and weightless. She accessorized with a matching purse and dangling earrings.

The dress she wore to the event was a dark blue Atelier Versace gown with an exposed bustier and thigh-high slit. Wizards of Waverly Place had wrapped the year before and Selena was ready to show the world that she was indeed all grown up.

Another example of Selena wearing a shade of red on a red carpet. This was way back in 2015 at the American Music Awards. You can’t tell from the front, which is relatively demure, but the Givenchy dress was backless.

For the Grammys in 2016, Selena wore a Calvin Klein Collection dress in the dreamiest shade of blue-ish purple or purple-ish blue. “I wanted something that was simple and felt like what I would if I was going on a date,” she told Ryan Seacrest when she walked the red carpet. She followed up by saying, “This is the last thing I would do on a date.”

Selena was 24 years old when she took home the Artist of the Year award at the American Music Awards in 2016. She wore a Prada red satin gown to the event that was simple and classic. The full skirt added a bit of flair.

Selena’s first visit to the Cannes Film Festival was in 2019 for the premiere of the movie The Dead Don’t Die. For the event, she wore a two-piece Louis Vuitton ensemble consisting of a bustier and matching long skirt. I love that the skirt was partially quilted.

Selena played the character of Betsy in the film Dolittle. At the premiere in Westwood, California, she wore a Givenchy gown with a long-sleeve light pink sweater bodice and full artfully shaped black skirt. The contrast of colors felt fresh and fun.

The Oscar de la Renta red floral threaded gown that the singer wore to the 2023 MTV Music Video Awards was exceptionally beautiful. It gave the effect that Selena was nude and encased in dazzling red vines and flowers that ended in tendrils dangling from her skirt.

The dress that she wore the to this event was amazing. It was a Giorgio Armani Privé silk gown in the most stunning shade of ruby red. The bodice seemed to criss cross around Selena’s torso leaving peek-a-boo cutouts adorned with black crystal encrusted flowers going down the middle. The asymmetrical skirt featured a black waistband a black underskirt. Stunning!

The deep wine-colored Oscar de la Renta dress that Selena wore to the Emmys in 2024 was a showstopper. The nude base of the dress was covered in a gorgeous leaf-inspired beaded pattern. Her lipstick shade looked like it was formulated to match the dress.

For the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, the multi-hyphenate star dazzled in a black sequin gown by Rodarte. The neckline featured the skinniest of straps that crisscrossed in front and were decorated with a large rosette at their intersection.

For the Los Angeles premiere of the film Emilia Pérez, the actress wore a black Ellie Saab off the shoulder gown with satin details. I love that instead of pairing it with satin gloves to match the satin in the dress, Selena opted for leather gloves, which gave the whole look an edgier vibe.

When I watched the 2025 Golden Globes and a vision in light blue appeared on my screen, I thought “Is that a brunette Grace Kelly or could it be Cinderella?” But nope, it was Selena in a custom Prada silk column style dress. She looked like a modern-day princess, who doesn’t need saving by a prince or any such nonsense.

I’m enamored of the custom Schiaparelli Haute Couture gown Selena wore to the 78th British Academy Film Awards. It’s such a clever design. It almost looks like two pieces because of how the black velvet Bardot neckline contrasted with rest of the dress which featured two delicate shoulder straps.

She looked like a living gem in a custom Ralph Lauren gown. The gown might look simple, but know that over 16,000 drops of glass and Rosemont crystals were hand sewn. Imagine how many hours it and attention to detail that took.

After attending the 97th Oscars, Selena headed on over to the Vanity Fair afterparty, but she had a change of wardrobe. She swapped the Ralph Lauren gown she wore to the awards ceremony for a strapless dark blue Giorgio Armani Privé that looked like a dark night’s sky had turned liquid and been poured on her.
