Let's talk about how social media helped turn Karrie Brown, a 17-year-old with Down syndrome, into a fashion model for Wet Seal, shall we? I love social media, you guys. I feel like the internet is the great liberator because it gives a voice to so many (provided they have an internet connection, of course) that might not otherwise have the means to get noticed. This story is particularly touching because Karrie's mother was actually told to "never expect anything from her." In your face, NAYSAYERS!

Karrie was noticed by Wet Seal because her mother posted pictures of her on her Facebook page, Karrie Brown Modeling the Future, wearing clothing from Wet Seal. Wet Seal was introduced to Karrie via social media by her fans.
The company loved what they saw and they reached out to the aspiring teen model. They helped her Facebook page explode with new likes (she has over 20,000 at the time of this writing), they also flew her from her home in Collinsville, Illinois to Los Angeles for a modeling shoot and they threw in a trip to Disneyland as well. Nice!
How did Karrie do? Everyone says she was a joy to work with and a natural. She asked for Justin Bieber music to be played while she struck her modeling poses. Her photo shoot will be featured on the Wet Seal website and their social channels in a few weeks.
