Yet another reason why alcohol & pregnancy aren’t a good combination

They say it's better to be safe than sorry, so given all the contradictions about whether it is safe or not to drink alcohol while you're pregnant, I think the best advice is to stay away from it. Especially now that a new British study has found that even moderate alcohol intake could make your kids less intelligent. The study, involving 4,000 mothers and children, found that drinking anywhere from one to six units of alcohol a week during pregnancy may lead to lower IQ levels by the time children reach 8 years of age.

According to researchers, the results show that alcohol does affect fetal brain development and even other studies have concluded that consuming a glass of wine from time to time during pregnancy is not harmful, this study proves otherwise.

Sadly, the only thing left for me is to hope that this is not true for all women because I did have a few drinks both times I was pregnant. I mean, it was never something I did every day and it was never more than one glass of wine or a beer, so hopefully that will make my children immune to the results of this study.

The interesting thing is that even doctors themselves sometimes contradict each other whether it's okay or not to drink during pregnancy. I was never told to drink to my heart's content, but my OB/GYN did not think there was anything wrong with me having a glass of wine every once in a while.

But, as I said earlier, since it's better to be safe than sorry, seems to me that the best advice is to simply not drink alcohol during pregnancy.
