Celebrity breakups aren’t all that uncommon, and we should be used to them by now. But even though celebrity relationships come and go, sometimes a famous couple’s breakup hits a little too close to home and makes us feel some kind of way. Like when we’ve been rooting for a couple because they seem so good together and then we find out that behind the scenes things haven’t been so great and they’ve decided to call it splits-ville. And no, it’s not like they owe us an explanation as to why they have decided to break up, but that doesn’t stop us from wondering what went wrong or hoping that they will somehow figure out how to make it right.
More from MamásLatinas: Latino celebrity couples who make us believe in love
This year has been particularly challenging for couples everywhere, and celebrity couples are no exception. Scroll to check out some of the couples who have broken up so far this year. Some of them have even broken up and gotten back together, like Chiquis Rivera and Lorenzo Méndez, or broken up, gotten back together, and broken up again, like Scott Disick and Sofia Richie.

Chiquis Rivera and Lorenzo Méndez broke our hearts.
We were so bummed when we heard that Chiquis and Lorenzo were taking a break and “giving each other some space” in June. But maybe they didn’t need all that much space after all, because they were caught by paparazzi in San Diego, California, kissing on the beach. Lorenzo was spending time working on himself at a center in San Diego at the time. "It was confirmed by a 'reliable source' even though no one is reliable in a relationship except the individuals who are participating in it, but right now, two halves can’t make a whole and we’re individually just working on ourselves to become the people that we wanna be, like everybody else at this age," Miley said in an Instagram Live post after the breakup was reported.

The pair, who married in 2016, revealed that they were going to take time apart in March. "We would like to share here that everything that has come out in articles and speculations about us is quite far from reality. We'll say that yes, something very important is indeed happening, something that we have been solving for several months. Making the decision to modify dynamics from the deep within requires a lot of courage, especially when there is such an immense love between us. The most common is to stretch the rope until it breaks. And when that happens, things break that become irreparable. We will never allow ourselves to get there. That is why we decided for a while to strengthen the friendship and stop the couple relationship. Retake our individuality to investigate what is happening, give space to heal, rebuild, transform. And in that reconstruction we are open to what may happen," they wrote in a long-winded post. "We need time, space and above all a LOT of respect on your part to be able to find out little by little and privately what comes next. The family that we have formed together is our priority and we will always defend it."

Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler's split was messy.
The couple announced their split with a statement on Instagram in April: “With great sadness, after 10 years together we have come to a loving conclusion to get a divorce. We have nothing but love and respect for one another and are deeply grateful for the years shared, memories made, and the children we are so proud of. This is just the situation of two people growing apart.
